CBCT scan: cone beam CT scan of the jaw is undertaken to aid in the careful planning of your treatment watching all the vital anatomical structures. This scan also reveals whether or not you will need bone regeneration treatment to graft healthy bone. However, in the case of All-on-4®, this is rarely ever needed due to the specific nature of how the implants are placed in the jaw.
Implant placement: the implants are placed under a local anaesthetic. You will walk away with a temporary set of new teeth on the same day as the surgery. The jaw is left to heal for approximately 3 to 9 months. We may need to extract failing teeth prior to your implant surgery.
Fixed tooth placement: your permanent teeth are affixed in place, based on measurements and scans we take at a previous appointment. Everything about your new teeth will be as unique as you are.
All-on-4® refers to a technique used to ensure the placement of a whole arch of teeth, on just 4 implants. This cost-effective implant methodology also allows for a temporary set of teeth to be screwed into the implants on the same day as surgery. This means you don’t have to live with the burden of having gaps in your smile whilst you wait for the implants and your jaw to heal over.
It is extremely rare that implants fail, though sustaining advanced gum disease can cause peri-implantitis – the implant version of gum disease. With good care, your implants should last for many, many years. Using the CBCT scan, the most viable areas of your jawbone are identified for implant placement. This process accounts for why our implant surgeries are so successful and predictable. Your implants are angled in the jaw in a way that provides support for the arch of custom-made teeth to fit over the top.
